Kayaking & Canoeing around Killarney
Explore the Lakes of Killarney by kayak. This trip starts at Ross Castle, visiting the Bronze Age copper mines of Ross Island and includes the option to visit the 6th century monastic site on Inisfallen Island.
There are many options available:
Kayak from Lord Brandon’s Cottage, through the Upper Lake and down the Long Range river. From here, paddle under Old Weir Bridge and the Meeting of the Waters, passing Dinis Cottage and onto Muckross Lake. Onwards under Bracken Bridge and into Loch Léin (Lough Leane or the Lower Lake).
Loch Léin will give you access to a number of interesting, historical locations, such as Glena, O’Sullivan’s Cascade, Inisfallen Island and Ross Castle, to mention a few. All the while with the possibility of seeing a White-tailed Sea Eagle or two!
Gentle Canadian-type canoeing is available on the lake and river waters of Killarney’s Loch Léin and River Laune. This voyage brings one up close to the nature of the region along a waterway steeped in history and archaeology.
